Lyssna: Inspectors warn animals may suffer as abuse complaints reach record levels
-
A record number of reports about suspected animal abuse have been filed with Sweden’s County Administrative Boards this year, and they are now warning that they do not have enough resources to carry out the necessary inspections.
-
Last year the Swedish authorities received about 16,000 complaints from around the country, which is the highest number to date. For example, they found cats that were so neglected they had to be put down, and dirty, malnourished puppies at a breeder’s.

Anna Lundquist, who is the coordinator for the County Administrative Boards’ animal protection network, is calling for more resources.
